Somerset County Democratic Committee must select its four representatives to the state party for the 2025 - 2029 term.
These representatives are the NJ State Democratic Party members, referred to as State Committee Members.

Each County Democratic organization is apportioned, according to population in the county, a percentage of the 98 total state committee votes.
This ensures the state party is answerable to the local Democratic organizations that comprise its membership.
Somerset County is apportioned four votes, split between four voting members.
Somerset County State Committee members are to serve as the representatives of the chair and county party to the state delegation. Coordinating voting decisions with the chair and the executive committee to advocate for Somerset County's interests.

The process for selecting candidates for the 2025 - 2029 term is temporary this year due to the timing of recently passed legislation. The law changed the State Committee from a position on the ballot to one selected by a county committee.
This year, the process in Somerset will be that our screening committee will review applicants, and from June 1st to June 2nd, all Somerset County Democratic Committee members will be able to affirm or reject the candidates selected by the screening committee via an online public ballot.
Somerset County Democratic Committee will need to amend its bylaws after 2025 to formalize a selection process in line with the recently passed legislation.
